Goethe-Institut Scholarship for NECTFL

ABout The Scholarship

This scholarship, available to teachers of German in levels K-16, provides a one- or two-week professional development course at one of the Goethe-Institutes in Germany in 2027 or in 2028; full information about available courses and dates can be found on the Goethe website.

The scholarship includes tuition, course materials, housing (varies depending on course location), breakfast every day and one main meal on Monday-Friday, cultural program, medical, accident and liability insurance for the duration of the seminar, coverage for transport home in case of illness. In exceptional cases, a subsidy for travel costs to Germany may also be granted. Not included: additional travel costs to Germany, as well as additional meals and personal expenses. Preference for this award will be given to non-native speakers of German.

Upon completion of this experience, the recipient is expected to act as a multiplier by sharing the knowledge and materials gained with their professional networks and with NECTFL, whether through a session at the 2028 conference, an online presentation, or another suitable and relevant format.

Requirements

Applicants must be members of AATG and teach in the Northeast region.
Applicants must submit the online application with the following supporting materials:

One-page essay in German, describing what you hope to gain from the experience
One letter of recommendation
Confirmation of employment as a German teacher
