About the Conference

For three days in Midtown Manhattan, world language educators gather to reinvigorate their practice and network with like-minded professionals. Participants choose from nearly 200 learning opportunities and events, including workshops, professional learning sessions, roundtables, and more. Explore our Vendor Exhibition Gallery to see what's new in language education, learn from the ACTFL Teacher of the Year in our General Opening Session, and take part in the exchange of ideas with language teachers working in everything from kindergarten to postsecondary classrooms. 

Call for Proposals

Making Conference Affordable

We recognize many district budgets in our region are strained and PD requests are closely scrutinized. As volunteer board members, we take this reality seriously and do all we can to provide a premier professional development experience while keeping it affordable. 

Keeping the conference in New York City facilitates travel to the Annual Conference. It also has proven to attract the most participants, which means we can keep costs low by distributing fixed costs among more attendees. Additionally, our multi-year contracts with the Hilton keep costs down while continuing to provide our participants entrée to the heart of Midtown Manhattan.

Of course, a conference in New York City comes with some costs. These costs do include the price of doing work in a union-friendly city. It is important to note that most cities in the Northeast region where we would be able to host an annual conference would also be union-friendly locations. Another massive cost is connected to wifi access. We don't blame our conference participants for wanting universal wifi, and we wish we could offer it! The cost is definitionally prohibitive and would have to be passed on to registrants. The Board of Directors has made the decision to not provide conference wifi to keep the registration cost low. 

We offer first-time attendee scholarships and a mentoring program that provides reimbursement funds for participants. We also offer discounts for early registration. Look out each year for those dates.
