Welcome John Carlino, Executive Director!

Important Announcement

On behalf of the NECTFL Board of Directors, it is my distinct pleasure to announce that, at its December meeting, the Board has appointed John Carlino Executive Director of the Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.

John brings with him a wealth of experience in the field, which has certainly served NECTFL well during his tenure as interim executive director since July 1, 2015.  A member of the NECTFL Board of Directors for two years, John has taught both French and German and currently also serves as World Language Curriculum & Learning Specialist in the Kenmore-Tonawanda Union Free School District, just outside of Buffalo, NY.  He has been the executive director of the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers (NYSAFLT) since 2004 and also serves as an at-large member of the JNCL-NCLIS executive committee. His knowledge of the field of world languages from multiple perspectives is extensive -  from inside the classroom, to district level coordination, professional service, association and conference management, and language advocacy.  We are extremely pleased to have found such a knowledgeable individual to serve the Northeast Region as NECTFL moves forward in its role of promoting and supporting world language education for students, faculty and teacher educators in the Northeast and beyond.

We extend a huge thank you to the Search Committee, expertly chaired by Cheryl Berman, Past Chair and consisting of Carole Smart, Vice Chair; Jose Ricardo Osorio, Board Member; Nancy Gadbois, Past Chair; and Rebecca Fox, Conference  Chair 2016. NECTFL looks forward to our continuing work with this talented and dedicated world language professional as he assumes the role of permanent part-time Executive Director.

All of us at NECTFL wish each of you a wonderful winter holiday season and look forward to seeing you all at the 2016 NECTFL Conference at the New York Hilton Midtown, February 11-13, where we will explore the theme: Developing Intercultural Competence Through World Languages.

Most sincere regards,

Rebecca K. Fox, Ph.D.
